Most people know they should visit the dentist twice a year — but life gets busy, and appointments slip. The good news is your mouth is usually pretty good at letting you know when it needs attention. Here are five signs it’s time to call us.
1. It’s Been Longer Than Six Months
If you can’t remember your last cleaning, that’s your answer. Routine hygiene visits do more than polish your teeth — our hygienists remove tartar buildup that brushing and flossing simply can’t reach, and we update your x-rays to catch small problems before they become big ones.
2. Your Gums Bleed When You Brush
A little pink in the sink might seem normal, but it isn’t. Bleeding gums are one of the earliest signs of gum disease, and the good news is that early-stage gum disease is very treatable. Don’t wait on this one.
3. You Have a Nagging Tooth Sensitivity
Hot coffee, cold water, something sweet — if any of these are making you wince, something has changed. Sensitivity can point to a cavity, a cracked tooth, or receding gums. A quick exam usually tells us exactly what’s going on.
4. You Notice a Change in Your Bite or Jaw
If your teeth feel like they’re meeting differently than usual, or your jaw aches when you wake up, it’s worth mentioning to us. These can be signs of grinding, shifting, or bite changes we can address early.
5. You Just Haven’t Gone in a While
No dramatic symptoms needed. If it’s been a while, come in. We promise we won’t lecture you — we’ll just get you caught up and back on track.
